Bagel Express serves Sugar Land for over two decades
When Barry Shapiro started Bagel Express, he said it was “bashert,” meaning “meant to be” in Yiddish. He built out the space in nine weeks, and the New York-style bakery and delicatessen opened with two other employees in November 1993.

The Sugar Refinery Grub and Grogs pays tribute to Sugar Land’s history
This restaurant opened in April 2017 in Sugar Land, and mirrors an old-fashioned speak-easy. Servers are dressed in Prohibition-era attire, and photos on the walls were obtained from city archives, depicting the city’s history and paying homage to the iconic sugar refinery landmark.
