1. This month local nonprofit Austin Diaper Bank aims to reach 100,000 in diaper donations. Through donations the organization is able to help 4,000 residents each year. The organization just celebrated the grand opening of its new warehouse Sept. 21 at 8711 Burnet Road, Ste. B-34, Austin.

2. Austin ISD took the first steps last week toward becoming a District of Innovation, a move that could grant it more flexibility in some areas. The school district’s board of trustees voted to set a public hearing in October and consider designating the school district as a DOI.

3. It’s October, which means a variety of fall events are kicking off in the region. Northwest Austinites can stay close to home or take day trips to partake in pumpkins, pints and plenty of festivals to celebrate fall.

4. National Night Out is Tuesday and several Austin neighborhoods, including Anderson Mill, Gracywoods, Great Hills, Laurel Oaks and Milwood, are participating. During NNO residents in neighborhoods across the nation are asked to turn on their porch lights, lock their doors and spend the evening outside with their neighbors, police officers, firefighters and EMS paramedics. 5. The city of Austin, AISD and Safe Kids Austin celebrate International Walk to School Day on Wednesday along with other students around the world. In Northwest Austin, Hill Elementary School students, parents and staff will commemorate this day with a walk led by the Anderson High School Drumline. Visit the city's Safe Routes to School program website for more information.

6. Round Rock ISD has released an interactive online map that shows proposed changes to the district's middle school attendance areas. The map is available at www.roundrockisd.org/msattendancearea16. District staff will present a final recommendation to trustees on Oct. 20 on proposed changes to attendance areas for Cedar Valley, Chisholm Trail, Deerpark and Walsh middle schools as well as the creation of a new attendance area for the future Pearson Ranch Middle School. RRISD trustees are expected to vote Nov. 17.
