Voters across North East ISD planning to cast a ballot in the May 7 local elections will consider contested races for three school board seats while Hollywood Park voters will face contested matches for mayor and one City Council spot.

Close of business Feb. 18 was the filing deadline for May 7 municipal, school and special district elections across Texas, according to state election law.

NEISD

Three NEISD board members will see opposition, school district officials said. District 2 trustee Terri Williams will be challenged by Rhonda Rowland and Jacqueline Lee Klein.

District 3 trustee Omar Leos drew a challenge from Diane Sciba Villarreal. An educator, Leos was appointed to an NEISD school board vacancy in 2020 and subsequently won a special election the same year to fill the remainder of an unexpired term.

Marsha Landry and Joseph Trevino filed to challenge District 7 trustee Sandy Winkley, who is seeking a second term. Each NEISD board term lasts four years.

Hollywood Park

Oscar Villarreal, a former council member who was appointed mayor in 2021, will not seek a full term as Hollywood Park’s top elected leader, according to the city. He did not apply for any positions before the election filing deadline.

Current Place 1 Council Member Sean Moore is vying for mayor along with engineer Chester Drash.

Place 2 Council Member Debbie Trueman opted against a re-election bid. Three residents applied for the Place 2 post: Michael Hall, Todd Kounse and Dale Randol.

Place 4 Council Member Delaine Hall did not file for another term. Only Wendy Gonzalez applied for Place 4.

Hollywood Park voters will also be asked to reauthorize a sales tax that helps to fund regular local street maintenance.

Hill Country Village

City officials said there will be no local elections because there are no contested races. Mayor Gabriel Durand-Hollis filed for another term in office, as did Place 2 Council Member Matthew Acock and Place 3 Council Member Thomas Doyle.

Only Gregory Blasko applied for the Hill Country Village Place 4 council seat, and current Council Member Neal Leonard opted against a re-election bid.

Shavano Park

City officials said only incumbents filed for three available at-large council posts: Margaret “Maggi” Kautz, Konard Kuykendall and Lee Powers.

Shavano Park voters will weigh a $10 million bond proposal to fund the repair or reconstruction of several city streets. Shavano Park will also ask voters to reauthorize a sales tax supporting regular local road maintenance.

San Antonio

San Antonio voters will consider a $1.2 billion multiproposition bond May 7.
