A 7,000-square foot facility in which people can bring their own beer and wine and swing axes into bullseyes will open this August or September in East Austin.

Located at 812 Airport Blvd., Austin, Philadelphia-based Urban Axes will allow people age 21 and older to join eight-week leagues, play during open walk-in sessions or participate in two-and-a-half hour group events with trained coaches helping them compete against others in who can throw their ax closest to the bullseye.

Austin General Manager Earl Ball said only two people will be in the arena at one time, and alcohol is not allowed inside the arena. He said staff would be monitoring customers to ensure safety.

The axes, Ball said, weigh about 1.5 pounds and are 14-16 inches long.

He said Urban Axes will be much like a bowling alley or a skee ball facility and will cater to bachelor and bachelorette parties, corporate events and groups of friends. 512-887-2937. www.urbanaxes.com
