Incumbents ruled the day in the Shenandoah City Council elections, as Ron Hyde, Darrell Frazier and Jean Teague won their respective races by significant margins May 11.

According to unofficial results, Hyde defeated Ron Raymaker for Position 2 with 63 percent, or 240 votes, compared to 37 percent, or 141 votes, for Raymaker. Hyde, a two-term council member, served as the City of Shenandoah's first fire marshall and bailiff for the city's municipal court and has more than 13 years of involvement with the city.

Hyde was unavailable for comment.

The Position 4 incumbent, Teague, also won her race against opponent John Escoto, based on unofficial results. Teague received 241 votes, or 62.6 percent, compared to Escoto's 144 votes, or 37.4 percent. In her first term with Shenandoah, she helped establish the Shenandoah Civic Club and serves on numerous city committees.

"I look forward to continuing to serve the residents of Shenandoah," Teague said. "Our current council has been very fiscally conservative and I want to continue that."

Although Teague said she does not believe there are significant issues facing the city over her next term, she looks forward to continued economic development, such as Vision Park.

"Shenandoah has been building exponentially," Teague said. "Every time we turn around, someone else wants to build in Shenandoah, so we're in a very good place right now."

In the tightest race of the election, Position 3 incumbent Frazier defeated Jennifer Marino. Frazier, a two-time incumbent, received 236 votes, or 60.7 percent, compared to Marino's 153 votes, or 39.3 percent. Frazier has helped the city establish a Shenandoah resident scholarship and serves on the Municipal Development District and Shenandoah Civic Club.

"I'm very happy that I can serve the residents of Shenandoah for another term," Frazier said. "I feel like we've accomplished a lot in my first two terms. I want to continue that trend and provide excellent services and amenities for the residents."

Frazier praised the residents for getting out to vote and said he hopes to continue improving the city's communication with its residents. He said he also wants to continue working on the city's pathways to improve transportation around the community.

"There's always room for improvement in every aspect of anything you do," he said. "Our council works together well with the professional staff we have, and I'm really looking forward to be able to continue that trend."

All results are unofficial until the votes have been canvassed. The new council members will be sworn in at the May 22 council meeting.
