The coronavirus is affecting the world, including the communities of Pearland and Friendswood. Here is a timeline of events for Pearland and Friendswood residents to reference.

7:55 p.m. April 14: The third coronavirus related death has been reported in Brazoria County. From Thursday, April 16 through Saturday, April 18, Galveston County will be offering free COVID-19 testing by appointment only, regardless of symptoms. The testing will take place at Fire Station 5, 5728 Ball Street, Galveston.

5:53 p.m. April 8: Brazoria County has reported its second COVID-19 related death. Galveston County is opening its first drive-thru testing site for high-risk people with certain criteria. The city of Pearland will be closing playgrounds, dog parks and other park facilities on April 10 until further notice.

8:00 p.m. April 7: Gov. Abbott announced that all state parks and historic sites should be temporarily closed. Brazoria County has also closed some park facilities temporarily. 6:45 p.m. April 1: The number of Brazoria County coronavirus cases has risen to 109.


8:45 p.m. March 31: Pearland has extended its Stay Safe at Home Order to continue through April 30. Pearland and Friendswood ISD have both said schools will remain closed until May 4. Brazoria County is reporting 16 new coronavirus cases, bringing the county total to 95.

7:05 p.m. March 30: Brazoria County has reported its first coronavirus related death. The total number of cases in the county has risen to 79.

6:07 p.m. March 27: Simple Recycling in Friendswood has stopped until further notice; however, Waste Connections is continuing trash and recycling collection.

6:03 p.m. March 27: Brazoria County is reporting 13 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total cases to 52.


4:42 p.m. March 26: The number of hospitalized coronavirus cases in Brazoria County has risen to seven, with three more being hospitalized.

5:45 p.m. March 26: Brazoria County reports six more coronavirus cases, raising the county total to 36. Two are Pearland residents.

March 25: President Donald Trump declared a major disaster in Texas.

6:06 p.m. March 25: Pearland issues a stay-at-home order.


4:30 p.m. March 25: Brazoria County issues a "Stay Safe at Home" order.

3:30 p.m. March 25: Brazoria County reports five new coronavirus cases, bringing the count to 33.

5:50 p.m. March 24: Fort Bend County issues "Stay at Home to Save Lives" order.

5:22 p.m. March 24: Brazoria County has nine new coronavirus cases, bringing the count to 28. The county also has its first recovered case: an individual in Pearland.


4:30 p.m. March 24: Friendswood announces it is closing all city facilities to the public, starting the morning of March 26.

12:18 p.m., March 24: Brazoria County is reporting its 19th coronavirus case.

Noon, March 24: Brazoria County chooses to postpone all May elections in the county to November.

10:34 a.m. March 24: Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo and Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner issued a stay-at-home order, asking all residents to cease non-essential activities outside of their homes.


March 23: Pearland City Council votes to move its elections to November.

8:07 p.m. March 23: Galveston County issues stay-at-home order, asking all residents to cease non-essential activities outside of their homes.

6:23 p.m. March 23: Pearland closes its city facilities to the public.

5:05 p.m. March 23: Brazoria County's reports 18 coronavirus cases in the county.

12:59 p.m. March 23: Brazoria County's case count jumped from 10 to 16 over the weekend.

5:30 p.m. March 20: Brazoria County reports that the coronavirus case count has doubled, bringing the total to 10.

5:01 p.m. March 20: Pearland Mayor Tom Reid signed two orders: one to reinforce the governor's decision to close the restaurants, gyms and bars, the other to give the city the right to waive development and non-development fees, as a response to coronavirus concerns.

10:30 a.m. March 20: Brazoria County reports its fifth case of coronavirus, a Rosharon-area resident.

5:02 p.m. March 19: Alvin Community College closes its campus through March 30. Classes will resume online after that date.

4:54 p.m. March 19: The Friendswood ISD bond election and Friendswood election reauthorizing the additional 3/8 of a cent sales tax for street repairs will be postponed. Pearland's elections are still set to be held May 2 at this time.

12:30 p.m. March 19: Gov. Greg Abbott has mandated all restaurants and bars in the state stop offering dine-in services. Until now, many Galveston County and Brazoria County eateries have remained open because Brazoria and Galveston counties has not ordered restaurants to close, unlike Harris County.

9:30 p.m. March 18: Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has issued a waiver to allow restaurants to deliver alcohol with food orders to help ease the financial hardship caused by the coronavirus.

7:19 p.m. March 18: Brazoria County reports its fourth coronavirus case, a Manvel-area resident.

3:40 p.m. March 18: Brazoria County announces its third coronavirus case, a Pearland-area resident.

2:44 p.m. March 18: Brazoria County extends its jury duty cancellation through Apr. 27.

12:02 p.m. March 18: Gov. Greg Abbott issues a proclamation March 18 to allow political subdivisions to postpone their May 2020 local elections.

11:30 a.m. March 18: The city of Pearland issues an emergency disaster declaration for the next seven days.

11:55 a.m. March 17: Galveston County reports its second presumptive positive coronavirus case.

6:18 p.m. March 16: Pearland, Alvin and Friendswood ISD announce campuses will remain closed until April 10.

4:02 p.m. March 16: Friendswood's Parks and Recreation Department closes all programming and reservations with more than 50 people expected in attendance through April 30.

March 16: Pearland, Friendswood and Alvin ISDs are offering free curbside meals to support food insecure students.

11:30 a.m. March 15: H-E-B has released a list of items for which it has temporarily limited purchases to protect its supply chain.

1:15 p.m. March 14: Brazoria County reports its first two presumptive positive coronavirus cases, two Alvin-area residents.

4:49 p.m. March 13: H-E-B, as well as Joe V’s Smart Shop, Mi Tienda and Central Market stores in the Houston area, will close at 8 p.m. Friday and observe hours of 8 a.m.-8 p.m. beginning March 14.

: The Galveston County resident who tested presumptive positive is confirmed to be a Friendswood resident.

March 13: Clear Creek ISD, University of Houston-Clear Lake, San Jacinto College and College of the Mainland have announced in-person classes will be canceled through at least the rest of March.

1:49 p.m. March 13: Gov. Greg Abbott announces a state of disaster for all counties in the state of Texas.

11:44 a.m. March 13: Pearland's Parks and Recreation Department closes facilities and the Friendswood Library suspends its programs.

10 a.m. March 13: The Harris County Toll Road Authority has announced collectors will no longer accept cash at toll booths in an effort to minimize spread of the coronavirus.

3:30 p.m. March 12: Harris County and other Houston-area officials have recommended gatherings of over 250 people to be canceled or postponed through the end of March.

2:35 p.m. March 12: Brazoria County cancels jury duty for the weeks of March 16 and March 23 due to ongoing coronavirus concerns.

Evening, March 12: Alvin Community College cancels classes the week of March 16 due to coronavirus concerns.


Evening, March 12: Alvin, Friendswood and Pearland ISDs decide close schools the week of March 16.

1:03 p.m. March 12: Friendswood cancels its senior program and events due to coronavirus concerns.
