Several items were approved at tonight’s planning and zoning commission meeting, including a replat for the hotel under construction at Stonebriar Mall. Here are two things to take away from the meeting:

Stonebriar Mall hotel replat

The commission unanimously approved a replat for the construction of a hotel and indoor commercial amusement facility at Stonebriar Mall.

Construction of the hotel, which is a 15-story, 295-room Hyatt Regency hotel, began earlier this year. The purpose of the replat is to create two lots on 49 acres from one lot and dedicate new easements necessary for hotel development, and an indoor theme park known as KidZania. The development also includes a retail building.

Licensed child care facility approved

The commission unanimously approved a request for a specific use permit for a licensed child care facility on one lot on 2.5 acres on the north side of Panther Creek Parkway and 600 feet west of Hillcrest Road. The facility, which will be a private preschool, will have space for a maximum of 175 students. The school will be known as The Prep School of Frisco.

City staff had originally requested the commission to deny the request because the facility did not meet two requirements set forth in the comprehensive plan, such as the architecture of the building not matching the residential homes adjacent of the property and the outdoor play area would be adjacent to the nearby residential properties.

However, the commissioners felt the school would be of good use there and because nearby residents approved of the project, they said they did not see any reason to deny the request.
