Bastrop is making several road and safety changes in and around the Sendero and Burleson Crossing shopping centers, including improvements to the nearby senior living community Settlement Estates.
1. Blakey Lane parking restrictions
Project: A new tow-away zone will prohibit stopping, standing and parking on both sides of Blakey Lane from the 100 block to FM 969.
- Why it matters: Bastrop Police Chief Vicky Steffanic said the area will become a tow-away zone to keep travel lanes and apartment access clear.
- Status: The first reading was advanced by council Aug. 11. A second reading is set for Aug. 25.
2. Blakey Lane extension
Project: Contractors will construct a segment of the Blakey Lane extension and install a water line associated with the Blakey Lane extension near Burleson Crossing East under a roadway agreement with BEBD Frontage Road LLC.
- Why it matters: Completing the road will provide the infrastructure needed for additional commercial development in the Burleson Crossing East area, officials said.
- Status: Council approved a developer reimbursement agreement June 23 that will allow the city to reimburse the developer for eligible costs up to $690,000.
3. Settlement Estates improvements
Project: Two new stop signs will create a three-way stop, and the existing crosswalk will move to the intersection.
- Why it matters: Bastrop officials said the intersection is currently a potential hazard. The changes will create a controlled crossing and improve pedestrian safety.
- Status: Council OK'd the two new stop signs and crosswalk relocation on June 23.
4. Settlement Estates pedestrian connection
Project: The city completed a sidewalk connection providing pedestrian and mobility-device access between Settlement Estates and Burleson Crossing East.
- Why it matters: City officials said the connection gives residents of the senior living community a direct route toward Sprouts and nearby businesses
- Status: Completed in early August; however, Wagon Wheel Circle remains closed to vehicles.
