Looking for ways to give back in Bastrop County? Local nonprofits are seeking community support for efforts ranging from trade scholarships and wildlife rehabilitation to music programs, free meals and hands-on permaculture education.
Here are five organizations Community Impact recently highlighted and ways residents can get involved.
1. Jack of Hearts seeks support as trade scholarship mission grows
Jack of Hearts has spent more than five years helping Bastrop County graduates pursue careers in welding, plumbing, electrical work and other trades.
The nonprofit has awarded nearly 100 scholarships and is seeking additional community support as its mission—and the cost of providing scholarships—continues to grow. Residents and businesses can help through donations, sponsorships and participation in the nonprofit’s fundraising events.

2. Learn how to help Bastrop wildlife rescuers build a haven
Wildlife Rescue of Central Texas cares for injured and orphaned wildlife while working toward opening its first permanent rehabilitation facility in Bastrop.
Residents can support the nonprofit through monetary donations, buying from its Amazon wish list and volunteer work.

3. Bastrop Live Music Foundation to host fall fundraiser
Bastrop Live Music Foundation supports local musicians and music education through mentorships, workshops, instrument distribution and other programs.
The nonprofit will host an Oct. 23 fundraiser featuring live music, food, raffles and a costume contest. Supporters can attend the event, buy raffle tickets, donate items or services for the raffle, volunteer or make a direct contribution to the organization.

4. Bastrop gala to support Feed the Need Missions’ meals, ministry
Feed the Need Missions has served more than 2 million meals since it was founded in 2010, providing free weekly meals at several locations in and around Bastrop County.
Residents can support the organization by volunteering at its meal sites, donating or attending its Sept. 12 gala at the Bastrop Convention Center. The fundraiser will include dinner and a live auction to support the nonprofit’s meals and ministry.

5. Rhizome Revival grows community through education
Rhizome Revival provides free and affordable classes in permaculture, homesteading and botanical medicine at its Bastrop educational farm.
The nonprofit is seeking support to build a weather-protected, multipurpose outdoor classroom that would allow for year-round education. Donations help fund the classroom project and the organization’s educational programs, while residents can also support Rhizome Revival through volunteering.
