Got Toys sells toys for a vast age range from newborns to adults and has two other locations in the New Braunfels area, located at 180 W. Mill St. and 1714 Hunter Road.
Owner Stacey Barcel said she had been looking to expand in San Marcos for years, but had always shied away from the downtown area because of Heart Co./Paper Bear—a handmade items and antiques store—which had been open in San Marcos for 41 years before closing in 2019.
"After they closed, I started looking a little more diligently," Barcel said.
She noted that by being in a college town, Got Toys' San Marcos location was going to have double the amount of products for adults.
"We're going to be carrying a lot of purses and backpack-style bags and some different growing plants, kind of like fun stuff for the dorm room or for their kitchen," Barcel said.
Barcel emphasized that most of the lines they carry can only be found in a specialty store like Got Toys.
"We try not to carry anything that's mass produced that would go into Walmart or Target," Barcel said.
