The City of Austin Public Works Department assigned a new manager, James King, to the ongoing Davis Water Treatment Plant project, which consists of two parts:

The Medium Service Pump Station project involves the construction of a new water pumping station with a daily capacity of 60 million gallons of water and the demolition of the existing medium service pump station building. It is scheduled to be completed in October 2019.

The Power Distribution Upgrade project involves the construction of a new electrical substation building and improved power service from Austin Energy to various processing areas of the plant. It is scheduled to be completed in February 2020.

Project update

The contractor has completed all excavation required for the Medium Service Pump Station and Power Distribution Buildings for the ongoing project. On Sept. 28, the contractor will pour the main base concrete foundations for both buildings. This work is planned over three non-consecutive evenings. Future pours are tentatively planned for Oct. 12 and Oct. 26 for an approximate period of eight to 10 hours per pour. The pours will likely take place overnight between the hours of 10 p.m.-6 a.m. to avoid peak traffic, especially on MoPac.

There will be some noise at the site from the hydraulics of the concrete pumping truck and the reverse beeper horns of the concrete delivery trucks.

For each pour, approximately 40 to 45 trucks will enter and exit the plant. Trucks will enter and exit through the main entrance off of W. 35th Street.

Public Works Department staff plan to visit with neighbors directly bordering the plant to make everyone aware of the work taking place.
