The University of Texas at Austin is set to begin construction on a new Child Development Center at 2216 Leona St., Austin, in November.

UT Austin's Child Development Center offers an early childhood development program and child care services to students, faculty and staff with several locations around the city. The new Leona Child Development Center is set to replace a facility at 1925 San Jacinto Blvd.

Located at the corner of Leona Street and Manor Road in East Austin, the 16,000-square-foot facility will accommodate 200 children, including 30 additional spaces for toddlers and infants. It will include 14 classrooms and four playgrounds. While the new center will be located in the vicinity of another UT Child Development Center located on Comal Street, the two facilities will maintain dedicated separate entrances to preserve a "smaller community feel" at each center, a UT representative said.

More details, including a celebration of the Leona Child Development Center's construction, will be announced soon, according to the university.
