Here are 5 things to know this week if you live in Central Austin: 1. Five proposed affordable housing projects in East and South Austin are going before a committee Tuesday that will review whether the proposed developments are in compliance with the city’s affordable housing requirements. After the Housing Bond Review Committee has reviewed the five applications, the proposals will go to Rosie Truelove, the city’s Neighborhood Housing and Community Development interim director, who will make recommendations to Austin City Council on whether to fully or partially fund the projects. The meeting is open to the public and begins at 4 p.m. at the Street-Jones Building, 1000 E. 11th St., Room 400A, Austin. 2. Google Fiber is coming to East Austin. Exact locations are still unknown, but sign-ups should begin this month. Sign-ups are currently taking place in areas such as Ben White, Dove Springs, East Oltorf, East Riverside, Montopolis and Onion Creek. 3. It's officially October, which means Oktoberfest and Halloween-themed activities for everyone. We've put together a list of what to do in and around Austin during the fall season. 4. The Downtown Austin Alliance wants to know what you think about parking in downtown Austin. A survey posing questions about when, how and why you park downtown is open until Oct. 14, and the results will be revealed at a public forum in November. The downtown parking survey is part of a greater parking study that includes logging a complete inventory of all downtown parking and holding community workshops and focus groups. 5. Austin City Council meets this Thursday. One of the topics it will likely discuss is the proposed development of the Villas on Town Lake in the Rainey Street District. The Villas owners are asking City Council to remove a restriction that limits the number of allowable housing units so that a developer can build a high-rise on the land.
