The Downtown Austin Alliance, a group of downtown businesses and community members, is seeking the public's input on parking in the downtown Austin area.

The survey—which takes about five to 10 minutes to complete—asks participants questions such as why they typically go downtown, what methods of transportation they use to go downtown, how long it takes to find a parking spot and where they typically park.

The DAA is also asking survey responders to identify possible downtown parking issues, such as price and availability, and offer potential solutions, such as building more parking garages or making downtown more pedestrian- or bike-friendly.

The survey is part of a $260,000, multi-month study being conducted by San Francisco-based Nelson/Nygaard Consulting Associates and paid for by the DAA. The study includes logging a complete inventory of all downtown parking and holding community workshops and focus groups. View a timeline of the study here.

The survey is available through Oct. 14, and the results of the survey will be shared at a public forum in November.

DAA President and CEO Dewitt Peart said in May the study was unique in that the private sector was being included in the greater issue of parking downtown.

"This is more than parking. This also takes into consideration all the other mobility factors that surround parking," he said.
