East Austin Studio Tour will make its annual return for two weekends this November.

The free self-guided art touring event will take place Nov. 15-16 and 22-23. The tour's host is Big Medium, a nonprofit founded in Austin with the mission of serving visual arts and artists in Texas.

"We want to bring people to our studio and support our art as well as local artists," Director Shea Little said.

This year will be the 13th tour Little has crafted on the east side. There will be opportunities to buy art throughout the tour; however, Little said the intention of the event is to provide community members a behind-the-scenes peek at what different artists do in their studios.

Little was inspired to create the East Austin studio tour after moving to the area in 2000. An artist himself, Little said he was surrounded by artists in bohemian-style studios and warehouses creating art, and he wanted to showcase their work.

The tour features more than 100 locations and 400-plus artists. The event is more free-flowing than others, Little said, who also visits the studios when he is not showcasing his own art, he said.

"It's a real free-form tour and is quintessential Austin to me. It's do-it-yourself, self guided, go-at-your-own-pace style," Little said. "You just kind of bounce around."

Attendees can pick up catalogues at Austin Public Library branch locations before the tour to help orientate them before attending, but maps and online guides will also be available the days of the event.
