Several Fort Bend County candidates have shared their thoughts following the outcome of the March 3 election, which has the Democratic race for county clerk and treasurer headed to a May 26 runoff.
In their own words
Incumbent Beverley McGrew Walker has secured the Democratic primary win for district clerk with 62.44% of the vote.
“I could not have prevailed without all of the many contributions, endorsements, encouragement, kind words, hard work and support you gave me,” Walker said in a March 4 Facebook post. “I am inspired to keep serving you with real results!”
On the Republican side, Audrey Lee has claimed the primary race win with 52.85% of the vote, data shows.
“I am grateful, first and foremost, for the blessings that made this moment possible,” Lee said in a statement to Community Impact. “I will be the youngest woman ever elected to a countywide office in United States history, and I will spend every day proving that Fort Bend was right to believe in me.”

Meanwhile, the Democratic race for county clerk will head to a May runoff with neither Sonya Jones nor Maria T. Jackson garnering the required majority vote. Jones finished atop the ballot with 37.5% of the vote.
“As a proud 14-year resident of Fort Bend County, this community isn’t just where I’m running—it’s home ... That makes this journey even more personal and even more meaningful to me,” Jones said in a statement to Community Impact. “We’re going to reach more voters, have more conversations, and continue building momentum all the way to the finish line.”
Jackson finished second with 22.87% of the vote—just 1,439 votes ahead of third-place candidate Shah Haleem.
“This journey has never been about me alone; it has been about service, integrity and our shared commitment to Fort Bend County,” Jackson said in a March 4 Facebook post. “The May runoff is an important next step, and I will need your continued prayers, support and engagement to move us forward.”
On the Republican side, Tamara McFarlane secured the primary win for county clerk with 52.72% of votes over J.J. Clemence, data shows.
"My fellow patriots, friends, family, and warriors for truth—thank you from the bottom of my heart," McFarlane said in a March 4 Facebook post. "To every friend and volunteer who knocked doors, made calls, prayed without ceasing, offered me kindness and stood firm with grace—you are the true heroes and the heart of this win. "

The Democratic race for county treasurer will also head to a May runoff between Jeffrey L. Boney and Sara Khan, who garnered 35.32% and 31.78%, respectively. The winner will face Republican incumbent Bill Rickert, who ran unopposed.
“I am deeply grateful to the voters of Fort Bend County for their overwhelming support of me in the Democratic Primary,” Boney said in a statement to Community Impact. “Now, I am respectfully asking for the continued support of Fort Bend voters in the runoff election.”
Khan finished 14,414 votes ahead of third-place candidate Rahim Rupani.
“I am truly humbled and grateful to be in the runoff,” Khan said in a statement to Community Impact. “As a first-time candidate, this journey has been an incredible honor, and I am deeply thankful for the trust and support so many of you have shown me.”

Additionally, Shawn McDonald has secured the Republican nomination for district attorney with 74.9% over Mark Rubal, data shows. McDonald will face incumbent Brian M. Middleton, who ran unopposed in the Democratic race.
“I am truly honored and deeply grateful to have earned your trust and support. This victory is not mine alone,” McDonald said in a March 4 Facebook post. “It belongs to every person who believed in our vision and worked tirelessly to bring it to life.”

Unofficial Fort Bend County election shows several races are heading to a May 26 runoff.
On the ballot

Fort Bend County has begun to release election day results, although some precincts remain unreported.
At the polls
As of 10:20 p.m., Democratic candidate and incumbent Beverley McGrew Walker and Republican candidate Audrey Lee have maintained their leads in the primary races for district clerk, amassing 63.46% and 54.12% of the vote, respectively.
In the county clerk race, Democratic candidate Sonya Jones leads with 36.79% of the vote. Maria T. Jackson sits in second place with 23.11% of the vote. If no candidate receives the majority of the votes, a runoff election will be held May 26. On the Republican side, Tamara McFarlane leads with 52.47% of the vote.
Meanwhile, Jeffrey L. Boney leads the Democratic race for the county treasurer, with 35.99% of the vote. Sara Khan is in second place with 31.97% of the vote.

Fort Bend County has released March 3 primary election early voting totals for multiple races, including district clerk, county clerk, county treasurer and district attorney.
What you need to know
Three Democratic candidates and two Republicans are battling for Fort Bend County district clerk, including incumbent Beverley McGrew Walker.
According to unofficial early voting results, Walker leads the Democratic race with 30,254 votes, or 64.36% of the vote, while Audrey Lee leads the Republican race with 17,530 votes, or 55% of the vote.
Meanwhile, four Democratic candidates and two Republicans are battling for a slot in the county clerk race in November. Incumbent Laura Richard is not seeking reelection.
Sonya Jones leads the Democratic race with 17,546 votes, or 36.56%, while Tamara McFarlane leads the Republican race with 16,671 votes, or 52.71% of the vote, data shows.
Additionally, the county treasurer position has five Democratic candidates running in the primary to battle Republican incumbent Bill Rickert, who is running unopposed.
Jeffery L. Boney leads the Democratic race with 18,279 votes, or 37.46% of the vote, followed by Sara Khan with 15,523 votes, or 31.82% of the vote, data shows.
Finally, the district attorney position has two Republican candidates running to face incumbent Brian M. Middleton, who is running unopposed in the Democratic race.
Data shows Shawn McDonald is leading the Republican race with 23,245 votes, or 75.68% of the vote, followed by Mark Rubal with 7,469 votes.
At the polls
A total of 99,093 Fort Bend County voters—94,333 in-person and 4,760 by mail—cast their ballots during early voting, representing approximately 17.49% of the county’s 566,601 registered voters, according to early voting statistics.
Polls closed at 7 p.m., although voters who were in line before closing will still be able to make their voices heard.
