Klein ISD officials celebrate full recovery in student enrollment

Klein ISD has officially reached—and surpassed—its prepandemic student enrollment, district officials announced in a Feb. 24 news release.

According to the release, KISD's student enrollment in the 2018-19 school year was 53,463. However, like many school districts statewide, KISD's student enrollment saw a decline during the coronavirus pandemic despite being considered a fast-growth school district.

As of Feb. 24, however, KISD's student enrollment for the 2022-23 school year was 54,013—surpassing the district's prepandemic enrollment numbers for the first time.

“We are so thankful in Klein ISD to be able to return to prepandemic enrollment levels,” KISD Chief of Communications and Planning Dayna Hernandez said in a statement. “We value every student, and with steady enrollment, we look forward to serving even mores students and families.”

District officials touted the enrollment recovery, attributing its success to ongoing efforts to connect with families and continuing to provide a “safe, supporting learning environment for all students.” District officials also noted KISD started the 2022-23 school year with 99.56% of all positions staffed, despite a nationwide teacher shortage.

“Klein ISD is committed to providing every student with an excellent and well-rounded education,” KISD Superintendent Jenny McGown said in a statement. “Our students' success and well-being is a top priority, and we will continue to do everything we can to ensure that they will thrive as students of integrity who achieve in academics, arts and athletics.”
