The Klein ISD Board of Trustees is slated to discuss the proposed property tax rate for the current fiscal year during its Oct. 5 regular meeting.
What you need to know
The seven-member board will consider maintaining a rate of $1.0119 per $100 in taxable home value. If adopted, the levy would cost the average homeowner $7.49 more in property taxes, according to agenda documents — though the rate would remain flat compared with the previous year.
In a statement, Klein ISD Executive Director of Communication Holly Mason said the proposed tax rate remains the lowest rate for the district in 34 years.
The proposed rate is calculated based on the average taxable value of residences, which is $190,730, per the documents. An average homeowner is estimated to have a tax bill of $1,930 for the current fiscal year, which began July 1. Individual property tax rates vary based on home appraisal value.
The proposed rate sits at the voter-approval rate, meaning the district would have to hold an election if it exceeded $1.0119 per $100 in taxable home value.
The board will hold a public hearing for the proposed rate during the meeting, after which it can move to adopt the rate.
If approved, the proposed rate is estimated to bring in $5,854 in local revenue per student, a slight increase compared with the previous year. The rate is also estimated to generate $8,011 in state revenue per student, a $326 decrease from the previous year.
Some context
The board unanimously adopted the FY 2026-27 budget in June, before the new fiscal year began in July.
Homeowners in Klein ISD’s boundaries can expect property tax increases from Harris County and, potentially, Harris County Emergency Services District No. 11.
The Harris County Commissioners Court approved a 7.6% property tax rate increase compared with the previous year during its Sept. 17 meeting. Commissioners voted 3-1 to adopt the rate increase of $0.67 per $100 of home value. The average homeowner is estimated to have $193 added to their bill.
ESD 11 is also expected to discuss a tax rate increase at its upcoming Oct. 27 meeting. The five-member ESD 11 board of commissioners unanimously voted Sept. 22 to preliminarily approve a rate of $0.0391 per $100 of home value. This is an increase of an estimated $2.74 for the average homeowner compared with the previous year.
The average household will pay an estimated $124.05 in property taxes if the rate is approved. The ESD 11 board will hold a public hearing and potentially adopt the rate Oct. 27.
