The Klein ISD Board of Trustees unanimously voted to keep a flat property tax rate during its Oct. 5 regular meeting.
What happened
The seven-member board held a public hearing and moved to adopt the rate. Trustees approved a rate of $1.0119 per $100 of home valuation without discussion.
For the average residence, taxes are estimated to be $1,930, according to agenda documents. That amount is based on the Harris Central Tax Office’s calculation that the average taxable value of residences in the district is $190,730. Individual property tax bills vary based on home appraisal value.
The taxes due on the average residence mark a $7.49 increase compared with last year, per the documents, due to an increase in the average taxable value of residences in the district.
The context
Holly Mason, Klein ISD executive director of communication, previously said in a statement that the tax office provides updated property values to Klein ISD throughout the year, on which property taxes are based.
Mason said the tax rate remains the lowest rate for the district in 34 years.
The board unanimously adopted its FY 2026-27 budget on June 8, which was estimated to maintain the same rate as last year. The current fiscal year began July 1.
With the adopted rate, Klein ISD is estimated to bring in $5,854 in local revenue per student and $8,011 in state revenue per student. Local revenue per student will increase slightly, though state revenue per student will decrease by $326 from the previous year.

The calendar sets the first day of school for Aug. 11, 2027, and the last day for May 26, 2028. It also allocates four teacher and staff workdays, as well as various days off, such as fall and mid-winter breaks.
School hours for high school, intermediate and elementary school students will remain the same.
