The July 29 episode of the Austin Breakdown digs into Austin City Council's focus on encouraging housing density and H-E-B's newest location, a fulfillment center in Leander aimed at growing the company's e-commerce capabilities in the Austin metro.

Austin City Council prioritizes density

As new residents continue to pour into Austin, development of new housing isn’t keeping up—even though more new housing is being built in Austin compared to other major United State cities. Seeking to take steps to ease Austin’s housing crisis, city council has pushed through changes to local development policies this summer aimed at allowing denser development along some of the city’s major corridors. Some residents, however, worry that denser construction could affect the city's charm.

Community Impact's Austin City Hall reporter Ben Thompson discusses city council's recent changes to development policy.
