Flights have been delayed up to an hour and 15 minutes, according to airport status information, after smoke reported at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 13 forced air traffic controllers to evacuate their workstations. The Federal Aviation Administration put a ground stop in place on all flights entering or exiting the airport to help manage the volume of traffic as the smoke was investigated.

The smoke was reported in a radar room that controls airspace over much of North Texas. All flights coming into or out of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field Airport must pass through this airspace. An FAA press release said the smoke could be attributed to ongoing construction work.

As of 1:27 p.m., airport Department of Public Safety teams were clearing the remaining smoke from the building. By 2 p.m., controllers were able to go back to their workstations, according to the news release. The ground stop will now be gradually scaled back as the airspace returns to full volume.

"It will likely take some time to work through the delays," the news statement said.

For information about the number of delays and cancellations for specific flights, travelers are encouraged to contact their airlines.
