The Hays CISD board of trustees did not come to an agreement on an interim superintendent
at its special meeting Tuesday night, but district staff members are hopeful the board will make a decision next week.
Staff said the board was interviewing and deciding between three candidates, and it would likely announce a decision at the June 19 school board meeting.
Chief Operations Officer Carter Scherff has served as acting superintendent
after former Superintendent Michael McKie left the district last month.
The interim superintendent is a temporary position, public information officer Tim Savoy said. Once an interim superintendent is found, the board has the option to select a search firm to find a permanent superintendent if they choose to use one.
Savoy said January 2018 would be the earliest a new permanent superintendent would likely start.
