A political action committee is gearing up to inform Frisco residents about a city alcohol sales measure on the May ballot.
Voters will vote on “The legal sale of all alcoholic beverages including mixed beverages,” according to the ballot language. If passed, the measure would expand the city’s current ordinance, which was passed in 2002, to include packaged hard liquor sales.
Currently Frisco has no liquor stores within its city limits, unlike surrounding cities, including Plano, The Colony and Little Elm.
The measure was placed on the ballot after the political action committee Frisco Committee for Economic Growth gathered nearly 10,000 certified signatures from Frisco residents.
The group originally wanted to have the measure placed on the November ballot but missed the deadline for that election.
Before May, the group will be talking to Frisco voters to advocate for the measure, FCEG treasurer Jeannean Hefner said.
“[Frisco is] damp; we’re not wet,” she said. “So we’d like to get that taken off the table so we’re all on the same playing field as Plano and all the other communities around.”
Hefner also said several developers have reached out to say they want the measure to pass.
The special local option election will take place May 7. For more information about the election, visit www.friscotexas.gov/government/citysecretary.aspx.
