A 3-D breast imaging center opened Nov. 25 in Northwest Austin, offering patients a spa-like atmosphere to reduce the fear associated with mammograms, Director of Operations Monica Erickson said.

Austin Breast Imaging, located at 12319 N. MoPac, Bldg. C, Ste. 320, provides patients with mineral water, snacks and robes to make them feel more comfortable during their visit. Calming music plays throughout the facility and patients are provided with a locker and a personal changing room.

The facility focuses on comprehensive women’s care, including mammograms, biopsies and ultrasounds. Patients are referred to ABI by family practitioners and OBGYNs.

Because mammograms and other testing can be a stressful experience, ABI aims to create a relaxing atmosphere for patients, Erickson said. If women have a pain-free and fearless experience, she said they are more likely to come back for treatment if needed.

ABI is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m.–5 p.m. For more information call 512-776-1000 or visit www.austinbreastimaging.com.

Other Impacts

COMING SOON—Construction is underway on the Windy Ridge Apartments located on 12 acres at 10910 N. RM 620.

The complex will have 120 luxury apartments with one- through three-bedroom options. Amenities will include a playscape, pool, picnic and barbecue areas, a fitness center, business center with free Wi-Fi and community room.

Adrian Iglesias, president of developer Generation Housing Development, which partnered with Realtex Development Corporation on the project, said the Class A complex broke ground in October, but residents will see more movement now.

“We’ve got a lot going on out there with site work and utilities and earth moving,” he said.

Windy Ridge was designed with warm colors and limestone façade, Iglesias said, and should fit in with the area.

“We’re trying to be good neighbors,” he said.

Iglesias said he expects construction to finish in November. www.realtexdevelopment.com
