The New Jersey native started his journey in the pizza industry at a pizza company in Sugar Land. What started out as a high school job eventually turned into his career. After 20 years in the industry, Flores started his own pizza restaurant.
“I decided just to go solo and do my own thing,” Flores said.
He opened Pizza Parlor Pearland in December 2010 as well as a location in Sugar Land, which he eventually sold.
Flores opened the restaurant when Pearland was a newer area with less development, he said.
“This was new at the time; not much was going on. I just wanted to be the first one around,” Flores said.
He noted Pizza Parlor Pearland offers a wider menu than a typical pizza restaurant menu that is limited to pizza and wings. The restaurant offers specialty pizzas, a variety of appetizers and wings, pasta and subs.
The appetizer menu includes traditional items, such as breadsticks, as well as unique ones, such as fried ravioli and fried mushrooms. For dessert, customers can try zeppoles, small Italian doughnuts; New York-style cheesecake; or chocolate chip cookies.
The restaurant’s supreme pizza sells the most, Flores said. Pizza Parlor Pearland also offers a number of options for those with dietary restrictions, including gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian menu items. Customers can order a gluten-free or cauliflower crust on their pizza or vegan cheese on top.
The restaurant offers delivery and curbside pickup as well as dine-in service. Orders can be placed online.
Flores makes an effort to engage with the community, whether by dropping off menus, chatting with customers or delivering pizzas himself. The restaurant has built up a strong customer base with a lot of repeat customers, he said.
