Phase II-C of the Blackhawk Boulevard reconstruction, along with intersection improvements at FM 528, is among the upcoming and ongoing road projects in Friendswood.
Upcoming projects
FM 528 intersection improvements
Project: This project includes striping and intersection improvements at FM 518 and FM 528 to provide dual left turn lanes on FM 518, as well as striping improvements at FM 528 and Sunset Drive to provide a second southbound left turn lane from Sunset Drive onto FM 528.
Update: The Texas Department of Transportation let the combined project for construction in September 2026, and the project is now advancing through the contract award and pre-construction process.
Sunset Drive signal improvements
Project: This project includes traffic signal upgrades along the Sunset Drive corridor to improve traffic operations, enhance safety and increase overall efficiency, including converting the Briarmeadow Drive intersection from an all way stop to a fully signalized intersection.
Update: The project has completed several major development milestones, including execution of the funding agreement with TxDOT, environmental clearance and surveying. City Council approved an engineering services agreement in September 2026, and the project is now advancing through final design.
Polly Ranch Subdivision and Windsong Lane Street Improvements
Project: These projects will rehabilitate streets within the Polly Ranch Subdivision and Windsong Lane areas through pavement repairs, milling and asphalt overlay.
Update: The city is advancing both projects through preliminary engineering and project development. Engineering consultant agreements are anticipated for City Council consideration in October 2026, with design work continuing into 2027 in preparation for construction.
Ongoing project
Blackhawk Boulevard Reconstruction Phase II-C Project
Project: This project includes reconstruction of the remaining segments of Blackhawk Boulevard from Pennystone Way to FM 2351 and from Thursa Lane to FM 528, completing the corridor and improving mobility and drainage.
Update: Construction is underway. A 12-inch water line and laterals have been installed, storm sewer construction is ongoing and construction of the 24-inch water line is expected to begin soon. Pavement removal has also begun along portions of the project.
Timeline: construction underway with substantial completion anticipated in late 2027
Cost: $8.6 million
