After Texas Renaissance Festival officials announced Friday that Middlelands would not return to festival grounds in 2018, Middlelands producers said in a statement that the decision was surprising. According to the statement, the producers of Middlelands traveled to Houston and, upon their arrival, were told the May 18 town hall event in Magnolia was cancelled.
"We were very surprised and disappointed by the decision announced by the Texas Renaissance Festival to no longer host Middlelands at the Texas Renaissance Festival Fair Grounds," producers said in a statement. "We fully appreciate the beauty of Todd Mission and the nearby areas and were prepared to implement residents' feedback in order to transform [Middlelands] into a valued community event. An astounding 66,000 guests attended the inaugural [Middlelands] festival, with many sharing their positive experiences. To our fans, rest assured we plan to return."

After cancelled town hall event, Texas Renaissance Festival announces it will not host Middlelands Festival in 2018
The Texas Renaissance Festival announced Friday in a statement that Middlelands will not return to the TRF grounds in 2018.
“Middlelands was a great success and brought over 60,000 people to the area from all over the country and the world," Texas Renaissance Festival General Manager Terre Albert said. "However, after a meeting with executive leadership and based on Texas Renaissance Festival’s overall mission, we’ve have made the decision to not move forward in hosting the event again.”
The announcement comes after a town hall event regarding Middlelands was cancelled Thursday evening in Magnolia due to travel complications for the producers of Middlelands.

Middlelands town hall cancelled, festival organizers say public forum rescheduled for next week
Representatives of the Texas Renaissance Festival met with area residents outside Magnolia City Hall on Thursday evening after a town hall event regarding Middlelands—a multi-day outdoor music festival held in Todd Mission earlier this month—was unexpectedly cancelled.
TRF General Manager Terre Albert said flight complications kept the producers of Middlelands from attending the town hall, and since it was to be a joint meeting between TRF and Middlelands representatives, the event was cancelled.
However, because news of the cancellation came just a few hours before the scheduled start of the meeting, dozens of Magnolia-area residents showed up in front of Magnolia City Hall, voicing festival concerns to Albert and other TRF representatives.

Resident concerns ranged from festivalgoers' drug usage and loud music to the number of 911 calls made and a lack of advertising about the festival.
According to a May 10 joint statement from festival organizers, the town hall was scheduled to address concerns from residents and gather feedback about Middlelands, which took place May 5-7 at the Texas Renaissance Festival grounds. The inaugural
Middlelands Festival featured three days and four nights of medieval-themed entertainment, electronic music and camping, drawing thousands of people to the area.
Albert said resident concerns will be considered before any plans for future music festivals are made. Although no date has been set for another town hall, Albert said the event will be rescheduled next week.
"Thanks guys for coming," Albert said. "We'll reschedule as soon as we can."
