Event companies C3 Presents and Insomniac, the creators of Austin City Limits and Electric Daisy Carnival respectively, will introduce the new medieval-themed Middlelands festival in spring 2017 in Todd Mission.

According to a Sept. 30 press release, Middlelands is a three-day and four-night music and camping festival.

"There will be three days of programming with cross-genre artists, four nights of camping, large-scale art installations and performers themed to the festival, and creative ancillary activities," Insomniac Director of Public Relations Nedda Soltani said.

The inaugural festival will take place at the Texas Renaissance Festival grounds, located along FM 1774 in Todd Mission.

Travis Bryant, director of marketing for the Texas Renaissance Festival, said Middlelands has been described as a fantasy-themed concert series.

"I've heard descriptions of it being a little bit like 'Game of Thrones,' also a bit like 'Monty Python,'" Bryant said.

He said the event companies selected the Renaissance Festival grounds as the music festival's location because of the facility's size and setting.

"The Texas Renaissance Festival seemed to be a natural location for [the themed music festival]," Bryant said. "Obviously we're also a facility that not only has the scenic elements that they're looking for but [it] can also handle the kind of crowds that they are expecting for this."

Bryant said festival representatives are excited about the opportunity to partner with Insomniac and C3 Presents, as well as live-events company Live Nation.

"We're excited to be able to be the location that they've chosen to bring this brand new event to the Houston area," Bryant said. "We're hoping that this will be the first of many off-season events that we can bring to all of our fans and other people that perhaps have never experienced the Texas Renaissance Festival."

Austin-based C3 Presents produces festivals including Austin City Limits, Austin Food & Wine, Free Press Summer Festival in Houston and Lollapalooza USA in Chicago, Illinois. Insomniac produces festivals and concerts across the country, including Countdown NYE and Electric Daisy Carnival events in Las Vegas, Orlando, India, Mexico, the United Kingdom and elsewhere.

Correction: Countdown NYE has been changed from Countdown to New Year's Eve to reflect the event's official title. The list of Electric Daisy Carnival events is not exhaustive.
