A new West University Place flag design will be flying high around the city after West U council members agreed on the new design at a May 13 City Council meeting.
What’s next
The original design dates back to 1995, according to officials, and as part of West U's 2024 centennial celebration, city staff and council members agreed to update the city’s flag.
The new flag will be flown at Colonial Park and the recreation center, Communications Manager Bianca Cuccerre said, and as new facilities are built as part of the city’s Facilities Master Plan, new flag poles will accommodate the U.S., Texas and West U flags.
New infrastructure being developed as part of the Facilities Master Plan includes:
- Building a new public works facility
- Building a new community center/senior center/library
- Building a new fire station
- Making renovations to City Hall and expanding the police department
What else
“The new design features the iconic interlocking house symbol and the 'West U blue' that corresponds to West University Place branding. We are so excited to share the new flag with the community,” Cuccerre said.
The timeline
On Feb. 26, city staff presented City Council with the first draft of flag designs for consideration, which included four different designs with three color palettes.
By March 18, city staff added two council members, Shannon Carroll and Mayor Susan Sample, to work with staff and the consultant to develop a final concept.
The new design was approved by West U City Council on May 13.
