Eighth grade students who are interested may fill out an online application on the district’s website.

The background

CHECHS was established in 2007 on the South Campus of San Jacinto College to provide an opportunity for students who are underrepresented in higher education environments to gain work and college experience, according to the social media post.

CHECHS students participate in two years of internships and 80 hours of volunteer service, and they earn a high school diploma with an associate degree—equal to 60 college credit hours—at no cost, according to the CHECHS website.

Looking ahead

Each applicant will receive a lottery rank by Feb. 23. Applicants who receive a rank of 1-125 will be offered admission for this fall, according to the district’s website.
