Husband-and-wife duo Russ and Lee Tuman became regular customers at Ristorante Mulino when it first opened in Southlake in May 2017.

“A nice family started this restaurant and they were from New York, so they started this restaurant—it was kind of their dream,” Russ said. “Lee and I started coming here when this place opened, and we really enjoyed it.”

Earlier this year circumstances caused the restaurant’s original owners to sell, so the Tumans said they took the opportunity to make it their dream and bought Ristorante Mulino in March.

“We still have the same chef,” Russ said. “He was born and raised abroad; he was trained overseas, lived in New York and came down with the family that opened up the restaurant. So when their situation changed and we bought, we convinced him to stay
with us.”

The Tumans said the most unique thing at Ristorante Mulino is the authentic Italian menu, which features dishes with seafood, pasta, soups, salads and their most popular item—Neapolitan pizzas, which are cooked in a wood-fired pizza oven.

“[The pizza] has a very light flour-base that allows it to have a light crust, so it’s not a heavy crust that you pick up; it’s more of a knife-and-fork meal,” Russ said.

The Tumans said the lasagna and salmon are their favorite items on the menu. They also have several dessert options, such as a homemade tiramisu, cheesecake, and a strawberry and Nutella pizza.

The restaurant offers an upscale but comfortable ambience inside, and a more casual outdoor seating area, which makes it great for all occasions, the Tumans said.

“We have a small, cozy, neighborhood restaurant. … We get a chance to actually meet with customers, and get to know people,” Lee said.

The Tumans said they are happy with the restaurant the way it is but hope to expand their service options in the near future to include catering, which has been requested by
customers.

Ristorante Mulino allows customers to bring their own wine or beer, and they do not charge a corking fee.
