Richardson City Council votes to fully fund DART
With several Dallas Area Rapid Transit member cities asking for funding reductions, Richardson City Council openly supports fully funding DART.
Council unanimously approved a resolution at the Feb. 10 meeting, a week after Gary Slagel, chair for the DART board of directors, asked council members for such a resolution.
“Passionately in favor,” council member Jennifer Justice said during the meeting.
Galen College of Nursing to add 150 more students
Galen College of Nursing is set to expand its facility following action taken by Richardson City Council.
The college could add 150 students once the expansion is complete after council approved a special use permit for the school during the Feb. 17 meeting.
The approved permit will allow the campus to expand by about 27,000 square feet for a total of 67,000 square feet, increasing the number of students on-site from 300 to 450; however, the school is expecting a total enrollment of about 1,400 students, Andrew Bogda, assistant director of development services for Richardson, said.
Richardson council approves Lennox International research and development center
Lennox International is set to build a research and development center in Richardson after council approved a zoning request during the Feb. 17 meeting.
The research facility, called the Lennox Innovation Center, will function similarly to the facility the company currently operates in Carrollton.
Lennox CEO Alok Maskara said the company has outgrown the Carrollton facility, adding that it will be a showcase for the company and bring additional jobs to the area.
“We want to put our innovation center here because we want to bring our customers here,” Maskara said. “We want everyone to see our history here.”
Event venue approved by Richardson City Council
A new event center could be coming soon to Richardson after City Council approved a special use permit during its Feb. 24 meeting.
The center will be located within the Corporate Plaza office building located at 1101 E. Arapaho Road.
The preliminary building plan shows a 2,600-square-foot event hall, with seating for 93 people and smaller rooms designed for preparation and storage, according to city documents.
Richardson City Council approves Staycation relocation plan modifications
With Staycation Coffee relocating because of an incoming apartment complex development, Richardson City Council approved modifications to the development standards at the shop's future home.
The modifications were approved following a public hearing during the Feb. 24 council meeting.
The coffee shop is currently located 201 S. Texas St., where it has operated since opening in 2021. It is relocating after council approved a redevelopment project that will demolish the shop's current location to make way for a 279-unit apartment complex.
