Up for election
Mayor Bob Dubey is seeking reelection and will have two challengers. Amir Omar and Alan C. North have both filed candidate paperwork to run in the mayoral election.
Council member Arefin Shamsul, who represents Place 6, will also have a challenger in Lisa Kupfer. Shamsul was elected to Place 6 in June 2021.
All other council members—Curtis Dorian, Jennifer Justice, Dan Barrios, Joe Corcoran and Ken Hutchenrider—are running unopposed.
Richardson City Council called the election during the Feb. 10 meeting. Council passed a resolution allowing the city to enter contracts with Collin and Dallas County for election services.
What else?
There are three Richardson ISD Board Members on the ballot, but only two places are contested.
District 4 board member Regina Harris is running unopposed. In District 2, incumbent Vanessa Pacheco faces two challengers in Elaine Bonavita and Pamela Hughes.
In District 5, incumbent Rachel McGowen will face Christina Angelina Neria.
Voters that live in the Plano ISD portion of Richardson will decide on three places. Place 1, Place 2, Place 3 and Place 6 are all up for election; however, Place 1 board member Lauren Tyra has no challenger. Sam Johnson and Xiomar Pierre filed to run for Place 2. Place 2 board member Angela Powell did not file for re-election.
Board President Nancy Humphrey, who serves in Place 3, will have a challenger in Harper Weaver.
In the Place 6 race, three candidates have filed—Elisa Klein, Andrew Rettke and Dash Weerasinghe. Current Place 6 board member Jeri Chambers did not file for re-election.
What you need to know
Early voting for Richardson residents in both Collin and Dallas County begins April 22 and runs through April 25 between 8 p.m. and 5 p.m.; April 26 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; April 27 from noon to 6 p.m.; and April 28 and April 29 from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
If needed, a runoff election will be held June 7.
