After inclement weather closed Plano ISD schools for three days in February, the district will use both of the bad-weather makeup days that were incorporated into the calendar to meet the state requirement for instructional minutes for the school year.

Originally scheduled as holidays for students and teachers, March 14 and April 18 will now both be regular school days, according to the district website. Texas education code requires school districts to provide students a minimum of 75,600 minutes of instruction each school year.

PISD officials closed district schools and facilities Feb. 3-4 due to inclement weather, extreme temperatures and the potential for unsafe driving conditions caused by a winter storm that brought ice and snow to North Texas. A second winter storm later that month caused the district to close schools and facilities again Feb. 24.

March 14 is being used to make up for the missed instruction from the first closure, while April 14 was added as a school day due to the second closure, according to the district website.

March 14 will be the final day for the third nine-week grading period of the year. Any secondary schedule changes made for the final nine weeks of the year must have a start date of March 15 to prevent issues with grades from the previous nine-week period, according to the district website.
