The city of Plano announced a number of city facility closures Feb. 23 as a winter storm makes its way across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Plano ISD also announced it is canceling all after-school and evening activities for Feb. 23 and closing all schools and facilities Feb. 24.

A winter weather warning is in effect across the Dallas-Fort Worth area through 6 p.m. Feb. 24, according to the National Weather Service. The warning states the weather will include a wintry mix of freezing rain and sleet with possible ice accumulation from one-tenth to two-tenths of an inch.

According to a Feb. 23 city release, Plano will close all recreation facilities, public libraries, the Texas Pure Products center and the animal shelter as of 3 p.m. A town hall meeting on public safety scheduled for Feb. 24 has been postponed to a later date. In addition, the municipal court will reschedule a number of court cases, and any summons scheduled for this week will be extended until March 4.

The release states city roads are slick, and crews are out sanding, but drivers are urged to be cautious.

City services remain active for Feb. 23, but they may be altered for Feb. 24. Live updates will be made on the city’s social media channels, according to the release.

The city announced it has set up an overnight warming station that will be open throughout the day and night. It is located at the Plano Salvation Army headquarters at 3528 E. 14th St. The warming station will be available through Feb. 25, the release stated.

City staff said there had already been reports of trees and tree limbs falling on the morning of Feb. 23, much like what crews dealt with during the winter storm earlier this month.

Plano residents who have trees down are asked to call the public works main line at 972-769-4140.
