Valerie's Taco Shop opening soon in Plano

Valerie's Taco Shop is expected to open Feb. 10 at 1130 N.Central Expressway, Plano. The Mexican restaurant will sell a variety of meat and vegetable tacos, including carne asada, grilled shrimp and carnitas. Burritos, quesadillas and sides will also be available.


Kelly's Cajun Grill to open inside Stonebriar Centre in Frisco

Kelly's Cajun Grill, known for its bourbon chicken, is opening a new location inside Frisco's Stonebriar Centre at 2601 Preston Road, Frisco, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Swagath Biryanis to open new Frisco location later this year

Irving's Swagath Biryanis is bringing a new Indian cuisine joint to Frisco at 160 W. Eldorado Parkway sometime in late summer 2021. All of the restaurant's food is halal and made from scratch using fresh ingredients. Menu items at the Irving location include paneer tikka masala and butter chicken.

Specialty sweet shop Cinnaholic coming soon to Frisco

Cinnaholic will open a location at 6959 Lebanon Road, Frisco. The sweet shop offers fresh-baked cinnamon rolls, bite-size Baby Buns, coffee, cookies, brownies and raw, edible cookie dough.

Indoor cycling studio Rush Cycle closes in Frisco

After opening in August 2019 at 6700 Stonebrook Parkway, Ste. 106, Frisco, Rush Cycle has closed its doors. The sign was removed from the building in late January, and a “For Lease” sign is on the window.

Frisco's former Posados Cafe set to become ghost kitchen for food-delivery services

The vacant space that was formerly Posados Cafe, located at 9506 SH 121, is set to see new activity: Sometime in fall 2021, it will become a ghost kitchen, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation and Embree Asset Group Inc.


Sushi Dojo opens first brick-and-mortar store in Southlake

Food truck Sushi Dojo officially opened a brick-and-mortar store at 3105 E. Southlake Blvd., Ste. 140, Southlake, on Jan. 25. A grand opening will be held Feb. 3. The restaurant serves a variety of sushi rolls, poke bowls and sushi burritos.

Alex’s Pizza, Pasta and Subs coming soon to north Fort Worth

Alex’s Pizza, Pasta and Subs will open in early 2021 in the Alliance area at 5800 N. Tarrant Parkway, Fort Worth. The restaurant, which serves homemade Italian fare, also has locations in Willow Park and Granbury.

Jamba Juice now open on Golden Triangle Boulevard in north Fort Worth

Jamba Juice officially opened Jan. 4 at 5301 Golden Triangle Blvd., Fort Worth. One of three Fort Worth locations, Jamba Juice serves a variety of fruit smoothies, breakfast bowls and other menu items.

24 Hour Fitness closes Golden Triangle Boulevard location

24 Hour Fitness has officially closed at 5901 Golden Triangle Blvd., Fort Worth. The company first filed for bankruptcy in June, citing the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Motor City Pizza offers Detroit-style favorites in Lewisville

Motor City Pizza opened a pop-up location in October at Seven Loaves Catering, located at 1305 S. SH 121 Business, Lewisville. The vendor specializes in Detroit-style pizza—a deep, rectangular pizza with a light, airy quality, according to a news release.


Cinemark 14 in McKinney temporarily closed

Cinemark Movies 14 at 1701 S. Central Expressway, McKinney, temporarily closed in January. A representative for the movie theater chain said the closure is due to a limited supply of new film content.

Custom cakes crafted at Melodic Bake Shop in McKinney

Melodic Bake Shop opened Jan. 21 at 1550 S. Custer Road, Ste. 600, McKinney. The family-owned bakery bakes themed cakes for special and everyday events. Melodic Bake Shop also serves made-from-scratch sweets that include cupcakes, tarts and other pastries.

Eviction filings set to hit courts after months-long pause

Over the last seven months, roughly 10 of every 30 residential eviction cases in the courtroom of Justice of the Peace Mike Missildine, whose Precinct 3 covers much of Plano, have been delayed due to the eviction moratorium. Those cases are now beginning to move forward, and without the hurdle of a moratorium, a slew of new cases are anticipated, he said.
