A data center company in Plano is planning to expand its operations by constructing another facility and electrical substation.

Plano City Council approved a specific-use permit request for an electrical substation that will accompany a new data center operated by Dallas-based Aligned Data Systems.

The overview

According to city documents, the substation will be next to a new data center with over 450,000 square feet of space off North Star Road near East Plano Parkway. The new facility and electrical substation would be constructed on undeveloped land.

The substation will be installed near existing electrical transmission lines, per city documents.


Aligned Data Centers operates two data centers along Summit Avenue. The city’s planning and zoning commission unanimously approved the rezoning and specific-use permit requests during its Feb. 5 meeting.
