SH 5 in McKinney is turning into a 4-lane roadway and a hospital in the Alliance area is expanding its neonatal unit. Check out some of the latest construction projects filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
1. Core Scientific renovations
One of Denton’s two data centers, Core Scientific, will see renovations for a 27,678 square-foot facility to be used as a data hall, according to a TDLR filing. City officials approved the expansion in Nov. 2024, per previous reporting. The city started the legal process for a data center moratorium, or a temporary pause from new development applications, at a meeting Aug. 18.

2. New lanes for SH 5 near the McKinney and Fairview border
The Texas Department of Transportation, or TXDOT, is turning a 2-lane roadway into a 4-lane, divided road with a shared use path, per the TDLR filing. The filing is for a section of the project near the Fairview and McKinney border. McKinney will also see new roads implemented from McMakin Street to Power House Street, per previous reporting.

3. UT Southwestern Frisco renovations
The University of Texas Southwestern Frisco is renovating parts of its first and fourth floors, including a compounding pharmacy, cancer exam clinic, imaging services and an office suite, per the TDLR filing. The renovations are estimated to take more than a year to complete.

4. PowerSchool opening location in Plano
The educational software company, PowerSchool, is opening a location in Plano, according to a TDLR filing. The company will be moving into a 49,606 square-foot facility at Apex at Legacy. Renovations are estimated to last roughly seven months.

5. Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Alliance expansion
The Alliance location for Texas Health is expanding its Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, or NICU, according to a public relations representative. The TDLR filing states the department will be increasing from eight beds to 16.
