Q&A: Meet the candidates running for Texas House District 33

Why are you running for this position?

I am running to continue delivering results-driven leadership for House District 33. My responsibility is to protect our freedoms, represent our community’s values, and ensure government remains accountable to the people it serves.

What are the biggest challenges facing this district?

Rapid growth is placing pressure on roads, water, schools, public safety, and property taxpayers. We must strengthen infrastructure and preserve the character, safety, and quality of life that make Rockwall and Collin counties exceptional places to live.

What are your priorities for the future of Texas education?

My priorities are academic excellence, parental rights, classroom discipline, school safety, and accountability. Texas must strengthen literacy and mathematics while expanding career and technical education so students are prepared for college, skilled trades, military service, or entrepreneurship.

How will you balance the development of data centers and other large projects with constituent concerns about rapid growth?

Economic development must benefit existing residents. Large projects should include transparent planning for electricity, water, roads, and emergency services. I support responsible growth that protects property rights, respects local input, and does not force taxpayers to subsidize private development or sacrifice quality of life.

What projects are most important for the legislature to focus on for the future of Texas?

Texas must focus on affordability, beginning with phasing out property taxes. We must secure our border and elections, protect children and life, strengthen our power grid and water infrastructure, and remove barriers to quality healthcare. Every priority should preserve freedom, protect families, and prepare Texas for responsible growth.

Why are you running for this position?

For the future of this district and Texas. I think about my child’s future, just like other parents in our district. Public education gives all children opportunities to succeed, and I want to ensure they have the resources they need. I am running to properly fund and strengthen public schools.

What are the biggest challenges facing this district?

Beyond working class representation, what I hear about most is public education and affordability, both of which I’m personally experiencing. We have some of the highest property tax costs in Rockwall and Collin County. There’s no reason our school districts should be underfunded while our teachers remain severely underpaid.

What are your priorities for the future of Texas education?

It starts with ensuring our schools have the funding and resources they need to provide for our students. Increasing teacher pay makes this career more competitive while maintaining job security. Competition brings forth more qualified educators for our public schools, and happy, well-paid teachers produce successful students.

How will you balance the development of data centers and other large projects with constituent concerns about rapid growth?

Until we understand more about their impact on our resources, infrastructure, or health, we cannot continue rolling out the red carpet for data centers. I believe in prioritizing resources for our people, which are already strained due to rapid growth and underdeveloped infrastructure. Development should benefit Texans, not hurt them.

What projects are most important for the legislature to focus on for the future of Texas?

Those that address public school funding and the cost-of-living for working Texans. Let’s increase pay for teachers, raise the state minimum wage, restrict price-gouging by utility companies, provide medicaid for all children, reform property taxes to protect lower-income families while having wealthy individuals and corporations pay their fair share.
