September is National Hunger Action Month and also the third annual Food 4 Kids– Plano Peanut Butter Drive. Plano Mayor Harry LaRosiliere and the Plano City Council partnered with the North Texas Food Bank to support the drive.

LaRosiliere challenged John Paul II High School to collect more than 1,500 jars of peanut butter this year and it delivered. Students and faculty from John Paul II High School, Saint Mark Catholic School, Prince of Peace Catholic School and All Saints Catholic School, including Bethany Elementary, Boggess Elementary, Mitchell Elementary, Schimelpfenig Middle School and McMillen High School, collected more than 3,908 jars.

“Leaders live up to the challenge,” LaRosiliere said. “Next year is going to be even better, and we can eliminate hunger for our children.”

One out of five kids in Collin County are food insecure, and peanut butter provides them with key nutrients, said Anna Kurian, director of communications at NTFB in a previous interview with Community Impact Newspaper.

The Food 4 Kids– Plano Peanut Butter Drive ran from Sept. 1 to Sept. 30 with drop off locations around the city.
