In the race for the District 10 state senate seat, Republican Konni Burton pulled ahead of her opponents with 95,484 votes or 52.84 percent, with all precincts reporting.

Democrat Libby Willis pulled in 44.71 percent of votes, Libertarian Gene Lord tallied 1.85 percent of the votes, and Green Party candidate John Tunmire pulled 0.61 percent of votes.

Burton, a Colleyville resident, owns her own wedding consultant business and is a part of the Northeast Tarrant Tea Party. In the 2012 election she became involved by walking precincts, donating money, and organizing events for conservative State Representatives Giovanni Capriglione, Matt Krause, Stephanie Klick and Jonathan Stickland.

Willis, a Fort Worth resident, spent many years working as a historic preservation consultant and served in leadership positions in organizations including the Downtown Fort Worth Tax Increment Finance District Board, the Fort Worth Cultural District Committee, Tarrant County Public Health's MAPP Steering Committee.

Fort Worth native Tunmire is a real estate broker and a disabled veteran who served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He is a member of both the Tarrant County Green Party and the Texas Green Party.

Lord won the primary runoff race in May and represented the Libertarian party tonight for the District 10 seat.

District 10 serves Fort Worth, Arlington, Mansfield and Colleyville. Senators serve unlimited four-year terms.
