Southlake's Community Recreation Center Phase 1 will break ground at noon on Sept. 27 in Bicentennial Park after being in the works for over 18 years.

Phase 1 will include an events hall, multipurpose conference and meeting spaces, a club lounge, catering kitchen, senior center, an outdoor amphitheater and events space.

Chris Tribble, director of community services for the City of Southlake, said during the ground breaking ceremony there will be a design center where attendees can learn more about the facility and the Southlake Community Band will play in the space designated for the amphitheater.

"This is more than just a typical groundbreaking ceremony and we're pulling out all the stops to engage citizens from the beginning," Tribble said in a press release. "We want the community to be involved in this facility every step of the way."

Below is a schedule of events:

9 a.m.: Breakfast served

9:30 a.m.: Presentation and groundbreaking ceremony

10 a.m.: Tours and giveaways

11 a.m.: Lunch served

Estimated completion for Phase 1 is December 2015.
