Mark Wood was hired by the city of Colleyville to serve as executive director of economic development and communications beginning Oct. 24.
Here are three things to know about Mark Wood and his position:
1. Wood is joining Colleyville after serving as economic development director in Flower Mound. Wood’s efforts in Flower Mound helped spur year-over-year double-digit sales tax growth, more than 3 million square feet of new commercial space and the creation of 5,000 jobs. He led the development of Innovate Flower Mound, a center that serves as a place for entrepreneurs to start, grow and expand their business. His resume also includes municipal and corporate communications experience.
2. Wood will lead the city of Colleyville’s economic development efforts including increased support for businesses during Texas Department of Transportation’s SH 26 reconstruction project, which aligns with the City Council’s priority of managing the project’s impact. He will also oversee the city’s communications strategy to ensure transparency and engagement with the community.
3. Wood is replacing former Colleyville Economic Development Director Marty Wieder, who left for a position with Grand Prairie in May. Wieder was with the city since 2009 and was responsible for helping facilitate deals to bring Whole Foods Market, Einstein Bros. Bagels, Petco and Zoe’s Kitchen to Colleyville.
