Frisco Freedom Fest begins Monday with the Dachshund Dash

Events for Frisco’s annual Independence Day celebration begin Monday with the Dachshund Dash at 7:30 p.m. followed by the Hotter ’N Firecrackers 5K Run at 9 p.m. Both events take place at Simpson Plaza in Frisco Square.

Festivities on July 4 include Party in the Plaza, the Children’s Expo, an FC Dallas game and the Fireworks Extravaganza. For a full list of times and locations, visit

Trash collection, city offices affected by July 4 holiday

All trash pickup services will be delayed by one day for those whose normal pickup days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. Monday trash pickup will continue as scheduled. Trash will not be collected Tuesday. Services will resume beginning Wednesday.

The following locations will be closed Tuesday:

  • City Hall and city administration offices

  • Frisco Municipal Court

  • Frisco Public Library

  • Frisco Senior Center

  • Frisco Discovery Center (also closed Monday)

Frisco City Council to discuss open-space requirements

During Thursday’s meeting City Council will discuss the city's open-space requirements for nonresidential developments. The city is looking to amend the requirements and will hold a public hearing during the meeting to receive feedback from residents.

The proposed changes include increasing the minimum amount of open space from 7 percent to 10 percent of the total net acreage. It is also proposed to increase the minimum number of required amenities from five to eight. City Council will meet at 5 p.m. Thursday at Frisco City Hall, 6101 Frisco Square Blvd.
