The district broke ground on both 2022 bond projects this summer, and Pogue Senior Project Manager Jason Davis provided the school board with additional updates at the Nov. 18 meeting as crews have completed grading at both sites.
The addition of the new stadium and middle school will help facilitate the district’s 10-year strategic plan, which includes splitting into two high schools.
The context
AISD enrollment for the 2024-25 school year is around 6,100, over 700 more students than the previous school year, according to Zonda Education data. Next year, enrollment is expected to increase to over 6,600, and the district could serve over 11,000 students by 2033-34, nearly double its current student population. This growth spurred the plan to split into multiple middle schools and high schools, according to district documents.
Argyle Middle School on US 377 once served as the district’s high school before Argyle High School opened in the 2021-22 school year. The district plans to open a second middle school on FM 407 in 2026 and turn the US 377 campus back into a high school in 2027 to provide enrollment relief. Starting in 2027, the US 377 campus will begin to serve high school students alongside its middle school student enrollment, with more high school grades to be added each year until it can serve as a dedicated high school in 2029.
The details
The new middle school off FM 407, which is expected to cost around $89 million, is scheduled to open in August 2026 and will serve grades 7-8 with a capacity of 1,200 students, according to district documents.
The campus is the catalyst for both the high school and middle school transitions. In the 2026-27 school year, seventh and eighth graders will be zoned to both the FM 407 and US 377 campuses, according to previous Community Impact reporting.
In late November, ground leveling and grading was completed at the new middle school and its track and field area, Davis said. The site is wrapping up moisture conditioning, after which crews will begin to form the building pad to prime the site for laying the foundation.
More details
Argyle High School athletes currently use the stadium and activity center at Argyle Middle School on US 377, prompting the district to build a new $45 million stadium and indoor activity center for high school students, according to district documents.
Crews have completed leveling and sloping the construction site for the stadium and the indoor activity center, Davis said. Construction of the press box, concession stands and home side parking lot is scheduled to begin by the first of the year. Additionally, crews are wrapping up moisture conditioning for the activity center portion.
Davis said he expects to begin erecting steel for the stadium press box and the activity center by spring. Around this time crews will also start installing the visitor sections of the stadium.
The stadium will seat 7,500 and will be located behind the AHS field house, and the existing artificial turf field and track will be used for the new stadium. The indoor activity center on campus will be utilized by multiple teams and student groups, according to district documents. The center will contain a small dressing area with showers, storage and restrooms, and will also double as the visitor locker room.
With the completion of this project, AISD's split into two high schools and the middle school on US 377 repurposed as a high school, both campuses will have their own stadium and activity centers.
Looking ahead
Davis said he estimates installation of the home-side stadium section to begin in early summer and completion of the entire stadium and activity center by November 2025. As of the Nov. 18 meeting, the district is still waiting for a site permit from the town of Argyle, Davis said.
The new middle school is slated for completion in July 2026.
