Frisco City Council approved continuing an agreement with the cities of McKinney and Plano to offer first-time homebuyer classes at Tuesday's regular council meeting.

Since 2012, Frisco has joined this interlocal agreement to offer these classes for the purpose of educating potential homebuyers participating in Frisco's down payment assistance program, which is open to city of Frisco and Frisco ISD employees. The class is a requirement to be considered for a first-time homebuyer loan.

Through this agreement all three cities combine their financial resources and offer one first-time homebuyer class a month. The agreement guarantees the availability of classes for homebuyers, eliminates duplication of services and reduces the current cost for the first-time homebuyer educational program for all three cities.

The cost of participation to the city of Frisco in the joint venture is $2,203. The city saves $2,417 per year through this agreement.

Classes will take place at the city of Plano. The first class will take place on Jan. 21.
