Hays CISD officials are getting ready to celebrate the opening of the district’s newest elementary school, set to open for the upcoming 2025-26 school year.

The details

The new school, Lamont Ramage Elementary School, marks HCISD’s 17th elementary campus and 28th overall.

Campus construction was approved by voters as part of a $367.8 million May 2023 bond. The campus is 117,611 square feet with a 900-student capacity, according to the school website.

HCISD officials will celebrate the opening of the school with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Aug. 1 at 10 a.m. at 575 Gristmill Road in Kyle.

What else

The school is named after Lamont Ramage, former HCISD official and community member, justice of the peace and former mayor of the city of Hays.

Ramage served on the HCISD board from 1976 to 1988 and served five years as board president. He also worked as a volunteer in the community, according to the school website.

The HCISD board of trustees approved the name at a board meeting in late 2023, as previously reported by Community Impact.
