"The district belongs to our parents and our communities so they have the final voice. What happens with the school district and today was the opportunity to weigh in on projects that were presented to them for consideration," HCISD Chief Communication Officer Tim Savoy told Community Impact. "Three of the four propositions passed; those were the three primary positions that would address the growth and the bulk of the needs in the district."

Early voting results for the May 6 election show that most of Hays CISD's propositions within the $367 million bond are narrowly gaining approval.

This is the 10th and largest bond in HCISD history with a large focus on academics and growth with items like future schools, expansions, additional space for extracurriculars and more.

The propositions are as follows:
  • Proposition A: Academics and growth ($208.81 million)
  • Proposition B: Theater and fine arts, athletics and career and technical education ($102.86 million)
  • Proposition C: Technology ($3.98 million)
  • Proposition D: Outdoor multipurpose pavilions ($52.17 million)
Propositions A, B and C have reached 54.14%, 52.00% and 55.59% approval, respectively. Proposition D has only accumulated 44.42% of votes in favor.

If approved, the bond will not have a direct impact on the tax rate but the rise in property values could lead to higher bills for residents regardless.
