Texas State University may begin a $62.5 million expansion project at the University Events Center, located near the intersection of Aquarena Springs and Charles Austin drives in San Marcos, in November. If approved, the expansion will grow the existing events center by 81,282 square feet.

Nancy Nusbaum, associate vice president for finance and support services planning with the university, said the expansion is being driven by a need for an adequately sized venue to support the university’s events, including commencement ceremonies, convocation and athletic events.

The Texas State University System Board of Regents were scheduled to consider approval of the project in mid-August. Nusbaum said she is confident the project will be approved.

As part of the project, athletic offices currently located at the Jowers Center will be relocated to the events center.

The university’s department of health and human performance will occupy the vacated offices in the Jowers Center, Nusbaum said.

Nusbaum said the university does not anticipate any events will be interrupted or relocated because of the construction, which is expected to last until September 2018. The university plans to occupy the expanded facility by October 2018.
