After a 6-1 vote for reconsideration Feb. 7, Kyle City Council approved of bringing Waterfront at Marketplace to the city.

The development is with Plum Creek Developers LLC and property owner Joe Brooks. According to agenda documents, the Waterfront at Marketplace is an 18.84-acre tract of land located west of I-35, south of City Lights Drive and north of Burleson Road that will be a combination of multifamily residential, office, retail and restaurant space.

“You have the ability to walk to H-E-B and any of that shopping area. You have direct access to I-35 through the new marketplace extension and direct access to downtown,” Mayor Travis Mitchell told Community Impact. “I’m happy to see the project take the next step.”

The Kyle Planning and Zoning Commission voted to recommend the rezoning of the property from retail services to a planned unit development to council. On Jan. 17, City Council voted to approve the rezoning and development agreement in a 3-4 decision on first reading. The development was brought back for reconsideration and passed on second reading in a 6-1 vote, with Council Member Yvonne Flores-Cale dissenting.

The next step will be for the developers to work on site plans and then move into construction.
